Theories and Super Smash Bros characters go together like peanut butter and jelly. Every time there’s a planned reveal of a new fighter, the internet loses its collective mind about who it could possibly be — usually leading up to disappointment at the next Nintendo Direct. *cough Byleth cough.* However, with Masahiro Sakurai stating that another fighter pack containing five new fighters is on its way, it’s time to put on my tinfoil hat and theorize which fighters are accepting the invitation to Smash.
5. Rillaboom – Pokemon Sword/Shield
Pokemon are no strangers to Super Smash Bros. The series which dates back to 1997 on the Game Boy is represented a whopping eight times in the roster. The first Smash included the yellow face of Pokemon, Pikachu, as well as the singing Jigglypuff. There is one exception, no grass-type pokemon. This is where Rillaboom, the final evolution of Grookey, from Pokemon Sword and Shield comes in. The roster includes final evolutions of water-type and fire-type in Greninja and Incineroar respectively, but it’s lacking in the third pillar of starting Pokemon.
4. Sora – Kingdom Hearts
Not only is Sora the face of a video game franchise, he also perfectly fits the mold of a Smashfighter. He’s got the look down pat and his keyblade can be used as his primary weapon. Plus, if Disney and Nintendo can play nice, Sora’s final smash could incorporate his side-kicks Donald Duck and Goofy. Sora makes too much sense for him not to be included in the second fighter pack.
3. Dante – Devil May Cry
Before it was announced that Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses was going to be the final fighter, the rumor mill was swirling and it seemed like Dante was a shoo-in for the spot. Now that the dust has settled, it’s still a strong possibility that Dante joins the fight. Capcom has given the rights to four of its other characters, including Bayonetta, who was created by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya. Given that DMC3 is being ported to Nintendo Switch on February 17th, Dante should be checking his mailbox for that invite.
2. Master Chief – Halo
Here’s where things get a little interesting. Nintendo and Microsoft have been on good terms in the past couple of years. Even more so since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, which has seen Microsoft exclusive games like Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest make their way over to the hybrid console. Why not take that one step further? Sony has marquee names like Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, and more recently Joker from Persona 5. It’s time for Microsoft to let their big dog out of the cage.
1. Waluigi – Mario Series
Picture this; Geoff Keighley is wrapping up The Game Awards 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 has ran rampant throughout the night sweeping all the awards. Keighley is about to say goodnight, when the lights go out. The stage is lit in a soft purple glow. The whole crowd is silent until “WAHHHH” Waluigi appears on screen holding a Smash invitation and the arena loses its mind. Keighley is given a Nobel Peace Prize on the spot and everybody hugs. No? It’s just me who wants that? Huh. Who knew? Anyway, it’s time for the purple clad villain to come off the bench and finally prove to everybody that he’s worthy of being a Smash fighter.
Who do you want to see in the next fighter pack for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and why is it Waluigi?
